#415 - Fitness-for-Service (FFS) Evaluation And API RP 579

Course Objective

Upon completion of this course, participants will have gained a practical understanding of Fitness-for-Service evaluations of fixed equipment and piping systems and the use of API RP 579 in performing such assessments.

Who Should Attend

Individuals who are responsible for performing engineering evaluations of existing fixed equipment and piping systems to determine their suitability for continued operation. Also, inspection personnel who are responsible for obtaining the information needed to perform engineering evaluations, or maintenance personnel who must have an understanding of the inspection and engineering aspects of fitness-for-service evaluations.

Course Description

Rather than being just a discussion of API RP 579 requirements, this course begins by reviewing the types of damage mechanisms that may be found in process plants. It also discusses the background of API RP 579 and other assessment methods that were previously used. Each topic will be introduced with a lecture using 35mm slides or viewgraphs. Class problems will be used to demonstrate the application of API-579 requirements. Independent exercises will also be provided that will give participants the opportunity to practice what they have learned. Computer software that may be used for fitness-for-service assessments will also be demonstrated using typical applications.
